On June 12, 2024, we held our very first Hire Innovations virtual event, marking the beginning of a new quarterly series designed to transform recruitment through AI and the latest technology. This event brought together industry experts and leaders to discuss the future of talent acquisition.

The event was possible with the support of our sponsoring partners: Dalia, Public Insight, Jamyr and TeamTailor.

The central theme of the event was the integration of AI in recruitment. The focus was on efficiency, personalization and future trends. Discussions highlighted the importance of data-driven decisions, automation, and authentic employer branding. The blend of technology and human touch was a recurring point, with many speakers underscoring the need for personalization in the recruitment process.

Katie Fortunato, President of RecruitmentMarketing.com, opened the event emphasizing the growing investment in recruitment marketing tech innovation, and the overall market is expected to double by 2026, according to HRdive.com. Katie also highlighted the transformative potential of HR technology in creating more efficient, effective and engaging recruitment processes to improve the candidate experience.

Here’s a detailed recap of the key moments and insights.

Keynote Speakers

Deidra Cox, Founder of Career Imagery

Deidra delivered an informative keynote on the integration of AI in employer branding, emphasizing the incredible potential of technology in recruitment. She began by stressing the importance of reimagining hiring strategies to stay ahead in the competitive talent landscape. “We need to stop ignoring AI and start using it to dominate the talent landscape,” she said.

Deidra’s keynote was structured around five key takeaways for leveraging AI in recruitment:

  1. Reimagine Hiring Strategies: Embrace AI to stay ahead.
  2. Optimize Employer Branding: Use technology to make your brand stand out.
  3. Personalize the Hiring Process: Make every interaction count.
  4. Automate Manual Tasks: Increase efficiency with recruitment automation.
  5. Leverage Data: Use predictive analytics to inform decisions.

She shared case studies from companies like Unilever, Hilton and L’Oreal to demonstrate the significant improvements in recruitment processes through AI adoption.

Unilever, for instance, used AI to screen candidates and conduct online games that assessed traits like memory and problem-solving skills, reducing hiring time by 75% and increasing diversity. Hilton implemented AI-powered chatbots to engage with candidates, decreasing time-to-hire by 90% and enhancing the candidate experience. L’Oreal used AI-driven video interviews and data insights to streamline their recruitment process, improving efficiency and engagement.

Deidra’s session provided a comprehensive overview of how AI can revolutionize recruitment, offering practical insights and real-world examples to inspire and guide attendees in their AI adoption journey.

Linda Lee, Talent Partner at AI Fund

She began by emphasizing the rapid pace of technological advancement, noting that the way we use AI today will evolve dramatically shortly. “The way we use AI today is not going to be the way we use AI tomorrow,” Linda asserted, highlighting the need for continuous adaptation.

  • Automation of Routine Tasks: AI is revolutionizing efficiency.

  • Improved Customer Service: AI can emulate empathy, improving interactions.
  • Security and Supply Chain Automation: AI strengthens operational security.
  • Personalized Career Development: AI helps tailor career paths by offering career coaching and guidance.

Participants actively engaged through the chat function and Q&A feature. They discussed topics like recruitment automation, employer branding and the impact of AI on candidate experience.

Here are a few highlights:

Q: How do you see the future of employment evolving with the rise of AI, particularly regarding full-time vs. 1099 work?

Linda Lee: “The rise of AI is certainly going to impact the structure of employment. We’re already seeing a shift towards more flexible work arrangements, including an increase in 1099 or freelance positions. AI enables companies to be more agile and responsive, which can make contract work more appealing. However, this transition will depend on the industry and the specific roles. High-demand skills will likely see more opportunities for freelance work, but companies will still need full-time employees for roles that require consistent engagement and deeper integration into the company culture.”

Q: What are some practical steps companies can take to personalize the hiring process using AI?

Deidra Cox: “Personalization is key to making candidates feel valued and engaged. Companies can start by using AI-driven tools to tailor communication based on candidate behavior and preferences. For example, automated emails can be personalized with specific job recommendations that match a candidate’s profile. Additionally, using AI to analyze candidate data can help create a more tailored interview process, focusing on areas where the candidate shows strong potential. It’s about creating an experience that feels unique to each candidate.”

Q: How can AI tools like Dalia improve candidate conversion rates?

Sam Fitzroy: “Dalia focuses on creating personalized and meaningful interactions with candidates. By automating communication and tailoring it to each candidate’s journey, we ensure that candidates feel engaged and informed throughout the process. This reduces drop-off rates and increases the likelihood of successful hires. AI can also help identify the best times to reach out to candidates and provide insights into what type of content resonates most with them, further enhancing engagement.”

Q: How can companies use video to effectively showcase their employer brand?

Jillian O’Malior: “Video is a powerful tool for telling your company’s story in an authentic and engaging way. Companies should focus on creating content that highlights real employee experiences and the company culture. This could include day-in-the-life videos, employee testimonials, and behind-the-scenes looks at the workplace. Authenticity is crucial—candidates want to see what it’s genuinely like to work at your company. By using video, you can convey the emotions and values that define your organization, which is much harder to achieve through text alone.”

Q: How can market intelligence tools like Public Insight help in strategic hiring?

Dan Quigg: “Market intelligence tools provide valuable data that can inform your recruitment strategies. By analyzing labor market trends, candidate availability, and competitive hiring practices, you can make more informed decisions about where to focus your recruitment efforts. This helps you identify the best sources of talent, understand what skills are in demand, and anticipate future hiring needs. Essentially, it gives you a strategic advantage in attracting and retaining top talent.”

The interactive nature of the event kept the audience engaged and provided valuable insights into current trends and challenges in the industry.
